The “Quality Street” Loft is a wonderful goldenrod room that features a stunning four-post, full-sized brass bed with mother-of-pearl inlay that was made in England for export to the late 19th-century Asian market. It is accompanied by a plush mattress, a down duvet and lots of pillows. The room’s ceiling has been cathedraled up to just below the roof to create an 18-foot-high space that includes a comfy reading loft accessed by a rolling library ladder, and a lovely double-hung colored-glass attic window that is now part of the space. Along with the bed, other Singaporean antiques include a beautiful hand carved teak mirror, a carved camphor-lined chest, and a blackwood-marble-and-mirror side table. There is also a niche closet, Oriental rugs, a flat-screen television, a ceiling fan, streaming music that you can adjust to your preferred volume, and an antique Brazilian stirrup made into a lamp.
This sunny en-suite bathroom has a heated marble floor in a diagonal herringbone pattern, white antiqued wall tiles, a glass shower, fixtures from Kohler’s Bancroft historical collection, a silver framed mirror, and a wall-mounted, oscillating Matthews fan. There is also a hand-made, two-tiered stand beside the pedestal sink which houses a blow dryer, shower gel and shampoo, and gives you extra space for your toiletries.
